(ALEX HAVARDANSKY | THE GRAHAM LEADER) The Graham Leader recognizes Gabbie Reyes as this week’s Athlete of the Week. Reyes scored 16 points Friday, Dec. 19 against the Ballinger Lady Cats and was a bright spot offensively.
Graham athletics is currently in their holiday break but that does not mean there were not impressive performances to be highlighted by its athletes.
This week, The Graham Leader is recognizing Gabbie Reyes of the Lady Blues and Cooper Wilde of the Steers as this week’s Athletes of the Week.
Gabbie Reyes, Lady Blues Basketball
The Lady Blues played one game late in the week before the holiday break Friday, Dec. 19 against the Ballinger Lady Cats.
While the Lady Blues were not able to pick up the victory, there were still solid scoring performances from the team and no one shined brighter in this game than Reyes.
Reyes scored 16 points, with many of those coming in the second half of the contest in order to give the Lady Blues a fighting chance.
Reyes opened the game with a pair of midrange jumpers in the first quarter.
She followed this up with another pair of two pointers in the third quarter and capped off the game with four two point shots in the fourth quarter.
Reyes has been a consistent starter for the Lady Blues this season and they will continue to need standout performances from players like her going forward.
The Lady Blues pick things up after the break with the Aggieland Tournament at College Station from Monday, Dec. 29 to Wednesday, Dec. 31.
Cooper Wilde, Steers Basketball
Similar to the Lady Blues, the Steers also played a final game before the holiday break in the Wichita Falls Classic against the Vernon Lions.
The Steers went into the break on a high note with a win Monday, Dec. 22 by a final score of 57-52.
It was a back and forth affair and Wilde had a standout performance which helped lead to the win.
Wilde scored six points on three midrange jumpshot makes. However, his jumpshots also came at opportunistic times in the second and third quarters to help keep the Steers in the lead going into the half and maintain the lead in the second half.
The Steers will pick things up in the Hays Hawks Christmas Classic at BUDA HAYS running from Monday, Dec. 29 to Wednesday, Dec. 31.
