The Lady Blues faced a tough task Monday afternoon. Their shooting went cold against the wrong team as the 3A No. 14 Holliday Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Blues 49-32 at Graham High School Monday afternoon.

Kate Gober opened with a layup 53 seconds into the game. The Lady Blues held the lead for 13 seconds. Katy Piper hit back-to-back 3-pointers in 34 seconds to give the Lady Eagles the lead for the remainder of the game.

Holliday could not get more than four points ahead for the first half of the quarter. Taylor Wilborn earned a second-chance basket, scoring after grabbing an offensive rebound. Katie Coyac cut the deficit to one at 5:25 with a 3-pointer. Gober’s successful and-one opportunity cut the deficit to three points at 2:54, but the Lady Blues could get no closer. The Lady Eagles closed the quarter with a 6-0 run to take a 19-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Blues combined for three field goals over the next two quarters. They were outscored by the Lady Eagles 22-10 over the second and third quarters. In the second quarter, the Lady Blues could only score one point, a free throw by Coyac, before Wilborn’s 2-point field goal with 1:46 remaining in the half. Gober hit a free throw for the Lady Blues with 37 seconds remaining.
