Hailey Armstrong has been playing tennis for six years. Her favorite moments were post match fist bumps from coach Matt Birdwell. “At that point I know that I played really well and made him proud,” she said. Armstrong is currently working on becoming a CNA with the goal of being a LVN. She plans to attend North Central Texas College after high school. Contributed photo from Hailey Armstrong

Writer's note: The Graham Leader is continuing to take submissions from senior spring sports athletes who missed out on having a senior night due to COVID-19. Spring sports seniors are invited to send a senior letter and a picture to sports@grahamleader.com

Hailey Armstrong has been playing tennis in Graham for six years, since she was at Graham Junior High School. She rates playing alongside doubles partner Karen Gutierrez among her favorite memories in the tennis program.
“We were playing in a Vernon tournament and we won for the first time against Vernon and beat their number one girl’s doubles team,” she said. “I have never seen my partner so proud and happy, we always have lost to them. Vernon is one of our hardest opponents in our district for tennis.” Armstrong is currently working on becoming a CNA. She plans to attend North Central Texas College to become a licensed vocational nurse.

This is her senior letter:
“As my senior year is coming to a sad end I have realized how much I loved tennis, I used to say I hated it after losing but now that I can’t play it breaks my heart. My advise to younger kids or underclassmen is if you are thinking about joining a club, or a sport go for it! It is one of the best things about high school, they become your family and is there for you through everything. I want to say a big thank you to Coach Birdwell and Brewster for never giving up on me even when I gave you sass for 6 years, you have made my tennis years great! Another big thank you to Mrs. Ranger for always giving me advice and letting me rant to you about anything and everything, you have always cheered me up when I’m down and boosted my confidence. Thank you Graham High School for everything you have taught me and let me experience!”
