Both the Steers and Lady Blues soccer teams met San Angelo Lake View in Abilene Friday afternoon in bi-district matchups. The Lady Blues fell behind three goals early and lost 3-2. The Steers scored one goal late and advanced to the area playoffs with a 1-0 victory at Shotwell Stadium.

Maidens 3, Lady Blues 2

The Lady Blues have been forced to overcome a lot of emotional struggles over the last few weeks. Still coping with the death of teammate Harley Grafton, the Lady Blues looked to secure their first playoff victory in program history. The Maidens showed their support by wearing purple shirts honoring Grafton’s memory during team warmups.

The Lady Blues played into a strong wind in the first half that created problems for the team moving downfield. Two of the three first-half goals by the Maidens were a direct result of turnovers given up while passing the ball into the wind.
