Graham High School dominated the day at the 5-4A district track meet held at GHS last week. The meet took place over two days with Graham earning team wins boys and girls varsity as well as boys and girls junior varsity. The Steers won with a 120-point advantage in varsity while the varsity Lady Blues held an 86-point advantage at the end of the meet.

GHS had athletes finish in the top-3 in all but six events combined between the boys and girls in individual events. In total, there were 12 individual events with GHS athletes taking first place. Marcos Herrera (1600 run, 3200m run), Seth Flowers (800m run), Gage Faulk (110 hurdles), the boys 4x200m relay team (JJ Lee, Faulk, Carson Trice and Daniel Gilbertson), Lee (discus), Trent Taylor (pole vault), Landon Hebert (shot put), Lillian Graham (800m run), Cambrie Cowser (100 hurdles) and Mary Lyndell Graham (1600m run) all earned first-place finishes. The top four finishers in each event advance to the area meet. The area meet will take place on April 14 at Mineral Wells High School. The Lady Blues will have 16 athletes in 22 events in the area meet. The Steers will have 19 athletes in 30 events.

“We were very pleased and felt like both Graham teams, boys and girls, showed up and competed very well with several seasons bests,” head track coach Jim Walton said. “It is always great to win a district championship and to win all four divisions is a great testament to the Graham Track and Field athletes. This was the 4th consecutive district track team title for the girls and the 3rd straight for the boys.”
