The 2020 Steers football team is gelling at the right time as the cliche goes. Since last month’s win against Everman, the team has played its best football with every game an improvement over the game before. Thursday’s 63-7 win over the Vernon Lions was no exception.

Much like their win against Iowa Park, the Steers scored in bunches early and never looked back. From the opening drive, the Steers’ offense proved nearly unstoppable. For three years, Daniel Gilbertson has shown the ability to break free for large runs. His first touchdown of the game was a 40-plus yard run, which gave the Steers the lead, a lead that was never threatened.

The Steers defense proved to be just as effective as the offense. The Lions were held to a three-and-out on their opening drive. The short drive enabled the Steers’ offense to start on the Vernon end of the field as they got back to work.
