The Steers traveled on the road to Stephenville to complete their district schedule and regular season against the Yellowjackets and despite a loss, they have a lot to look forward to in postseason play.

Head coach Quinton Fossett, who is in his first year of coaching, laid out what is at stake for the Steers and the kind of statement that this team could make in the first round of the playoffs.

“It’s pretty easy,” Fossett said. “We haven’t won a playoff game in seven years. We like the matchup we have. We just have to take it possession by possession.”

In the game against Stephenville, a couple of players still had promising performances, including Cooper Corley and Jagger Nees.

Corley led the way with 14 points while Nees had nine and was the second leading scorer in the game with nine points, but overall Fossett said it was a rough scoring night for the team being that it's a bit of a trick situation in the final game of the year.

“It was kind of a funny night,” Fossett said. “We’ve gotta flush it and move on. It was a rough night, the ball couldn’t go in the basket. We’ve just got to get ready for the next, prepare for Lakeview and give it their best shot.”

That matchup against Lake View will take place at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24 at Clyde High School.

The Steers will have a challenge ahead of them as Lakeview finished third in their district with a 7-5 record in a tough district.

The Chiefs are also currently riding a four-game winning streak heading into the postseason.
