The Graham Steers continued their hot streak in district play with a shutout of the Mineral Wells Rams.

After the 42-0 win, the Steers remain undefeated in district play and moved to 6-2 on the season. Due to weather concerns, the game was held Thursday, Oct. 23.

After a brief lightning delay to start the Steers went on to outmaneuver the Rams. Much of this came off of a dominant ground game where Colt Taylor opened the scoring with a wide open running lane to hop into the endzone for an easy touchdown 7-0.

Dylan Cox followed that up with a run off of the left side of the line on a drive later in the first quarter to make it a 14-0 Steers lead.

The defense was also dominant, not allowing a single big rushing play until around midway through the first half.

Head coach Clay McChristian said after the game it was a priority to stop the Rams’ run game and force them into throwing situations in order to beat them.

The Steers also broke a big play through the air with Jace Gill finding Brodie Martin over the middle of the field on third and 16, who broke a couple of tackles and made moves to find the endzone for the 21-0 lead.

Cox broke off his second rushing touchdown down the right sideline to make it 28-0, and then Gill hit Taylor on a short pass to the corner of the endzone to make it 35-0. Cox capped it off with a hat trick on a rushing touchdown for 42-0.

“I know we put a lot on your plate this week,” McChristian said to the team after the win. “You guys never got too frustrated, you got back to work everyday and got it done.”

The Steers next matchup after this is against the Brock Eagles at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, on the road.

The Steers and Eagles met twice last season and went 1-1. Graham will look to continue their streak to maintain their hold on district.
