(THOMAS WALLNER | THE GRAHAM LEADER) Cason Roberts winds up a throw during a previous game in the season Tuesday, March 17 against the Jim Ned Indians. The Steers earned their first win of district Thursday, April 2.

The Steers bounced back to earn their first win of the district season with an 8-2 victory on the road at Brownwood.

Looking to find their first win since March 6, the Steers entered the district matchup Thursday, April 2 trying to earn their first win of the district schedule after losing back-to-back games in a series against Brock and the first game of the series against Brownwood.

Toby Boenisch and Kyler Alexander scored a pair of runs in the first inning and the Steers never looked back.

The Steers took advantage of defensive struggles by the Lions in the third inning to add three more runs scored by Cooper Corley, Tanner Hurford and Colt Taylor.

Corley and Hurford added a pair of runs in the fifth inning to help seal the win.

Corley, Hurford and Taylor each had multi-hit games for the Steers. Dylan Cox and Tripp Mahaney each had doubles.

Ayden McDougal earned the win for the Steers on the pitcher’s mound. He gave up seven hits and two runs in 5.2 innings while striking out three batters. Harrison Sweaney took the loss for the Lions.

Hoping to build on the momentum created in the win against the Lions, the Steers play a series this week against Mineral Wells. The Steers will host the Rams at home Friday, April 7.
