The Graham Steers participated in the 2021 Breckenridge Lions Club Basketball Tournament. It was in group play Friday afternoon when the Steers earned their first win under new coach Kris Hise.

Boys Pool A consisted of Sweetwater, Buna, Jim Ned and the Steers. Pool B was Breckenridge, Comanche, Clyde and Dumas.

The Steers opened the tournament with a loss to Jim Ned, 63-35. The first of two games Friday were against Sweetwater. The Mustangs opened the game with an 8-0 run as the usual problems of missing shots and ball security were a problem for the Steers. Over the final four minutes of the first quarter, the Steers held the Mustangs without a point as they cut the deficit to three points by the end of the quarter.

The second quarter opened with a steal and a basket by senior Lawson Wenning. The score cut the deficit to one at 8-7. Wenninger had a second steal on the Mustangs’ next possession but could not find the basket. Creed Jordan scored on a second-chance opportunity for the first lead of the game for the Steers.
