The Graham Steers entered their Friday game against the Sweetwater Mustangs in desperate need of a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Although they have not officially earned a playoff berth, the Steers are one win or a Mustangs’ loss away, after earning a 39-8 win Friday, Oct. 21.

After winning the opening toss and electing to defer, the Mustangs caught the Steers off-guard with an onside kick, recovering on the Steers’ 48-yard line. They could not take advantage of the field position to open the game and punted after a three-and-out.

The Steers responded with an 85-yard drive that was capped off with a 12-yard pass from Ty Thompson to Brayden Riggins. Jesus Lucio’s extra-point attempt was blocked, leaving the Steers ahead 6-0.

The lead was the first the Steers held since defeating Old High on Friday, Sept. 30.
