A come-from-behind lead in the bottom of the fifth was not enough for the Steers to pull out a win against the Jim Ned Indians.
Before the game Tuesday, March 17, the community honored its senior Steers athletes for senior night.
Seniors were led out by family as members of the audience recognized their athletic careers in the baseball program.
Seniors honored were Jaden Neal, Tanner Hurford, Mike Garcia, Tripp Mahaney and Cason Roberts.
Things started slow for both teams with the Steers and Indians having one point on the board at the bottom of the first inning before Jim Ned took the lead in the second. Two runs were scored on a single and a double to bring the game to 4-1.
The Steers answered back in the bottom of the fifth with Cason Roberts scoring, Colt Taylor hitting a single to score one run and Toby Boenisch singling and scoring two runs.
With the score now at 5-4 and the Steers in the lead, the Indians gave their response, with two doubles in the top of the seventh to bring the game to the final score of 9-5.
Following a game at Iowa Park scheduled for Saturday, March 21, the Steers are set to face Brock back-to-back next week for the opening of district.
The first game will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 24 at home in Graham and the second game will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, March 27, away at Brock.
The rest of the district schedule has back-to-back matchups through the end of April each week with opponents Mineral Wells, Stephenville and then finally away at Glen Rose to finish off the schedule.
