Although Steers baseball coach Jim Bob Williams announced his retirement at the end of the school year, retirement has not been on his mind. Once the football season ended, his attention turned to his true sports love, baseball. Last week the Steers took a share of the district championship, sharing with Iowa Park.

The week ended with a win over Iowa Park to take the first seed in the district for their bi-district matchup. Monday night, in the final home game of his career, the Steers defeated Breckenridge 6-4.

Breckenridge jumped ahead early as Nick Helm struggled with locating his pitches in two innings. The bases were quickly loaded with no outs to start the game. The bases when Christian Arellano and Evan Moore were both hit by pitches. Jonas Arellano reached base after getting walked in five pitches. Ayden Reyes took advantage by bringing a runner in on a sacrifice fly to left field. The top half of the inning ended in three pitches with a sacrifice bunt and a lineout to left fielder Lawson Wenninger.

The Buckaroos took a 2-0 lead in the top half of the second inning. Ashton Reyes reached second base on an error. With two outs, he was brought home by Christian Arellano with an RBI double to center field.
