The road to winning a second consecutive Division II state 7-on-7 championship has required some growth for the Graham Steers during state qualifier action. Gone are playmakers Tucker Horn, Cameron Parker and Callen Mills from last season's state 7-on-7 championship team, yet this year's team is no slouch. Despite the personnel losses, the Steers have been able to reload this offseason as they march to another shot at another 7-on-7 title. The Steers, coached by Jeff Horn, managed to light up opposing teams defenses on Friday at the Brownwood State Qualifying Tournament when they scored 114 points in three games behind new quarterback Hunter Lanham. The team defeated Breckenridge by a score of 35 to 19 in the opener, which set up a matchup with Fort Stockton in the second game of the day. The Panthers had no answer for the potent Graham offense. The Steers managed to torch the Fort Stockton secondary for 33 points by halftime. Lanham settled into a nice groove early on by completing 6 of 8 passes on the opening drive, which ended on a Daniel Gilbertson touchdown catch. Bodie Stroud added the point-after-attempt.
