The Graham Steers came up short despite a fight against the Glen Rose Tigers at home.

The Steers were close to victory, but fell by seven points with a final score of 47-40.

Head coach Quinton Fossett said that despite the loss, he appreciates the team’s poise no matter what the situation.

“It’s any night, it doesn’t matter who you play,” Fossett said. “We expect to battle night in and night out. That’s what these guys keep believing in and that’s what makes it fun.”

The Steers got off to a slow start trailing 5-0 but eventually bounced back after picking up early buckets from Bryce and Brodie Martin, Jaden Neal and Cooper Corley to make it a two point game 10-8 after the first quarter.

Both teams battled back and forth in the second quarter and a late batch of free throws from Nick Wankowicz and Cooper Corley tied the game at 19 all going into halftime.

That would be the same story in the third quarter as both teams were once again deadlocked at 31 going into the final quarter of play.

Bryce Martin and Corley hit the first pair of threes in the game and Corley led the way with seven points in the frame.

Graham put up another nine points in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough as Glen Rose pulled away to win the game.

A controversial play came late in the fourth quarter when Corley went up for a layup and drew contact from a Glen Rose defender but no foul call was made. This got the hometown crowd and Fossett fired up and Glen Rose marched down the court and hit a bucket on the next play that swung momentum in favor of Glen Rose to close things out.

After their final game of the regular season Tuesday, Feb. 17 all eyes will turn to how the Steers pan out in the playoffs.
