The Graham Steers opened their season with a dominating victory over the Millsap Bulldogs.
The Steers blew out the Bulldogs 72-35 in a statement win Tuesday, Nov. 18.
“Anytime you score 70 right out of the gate, I think it’s a big deal,” head coach Quinton Fossett said. “We’re hard to guard and we don’t care who scores.”
The Steers started the game jumping out to a 12-5 lead after the first quarter.
Jagger Nees kicked things off scoring with a free throw and other players like Tyler Allen, Cooper Wilde and Nick Wankowicz also got in on the scoring. Obed Trejo and Allen also created offensive opportunities by forcing key turnovers against the Bulldogs.
In the second quarter, even more shots started to fall for the Steers, particularly for Wankowicz. He dominated in the second quarter with tough plays on the board and a bevy of midrange jumpers and putback layups to help the team out to a 33-14 lead at halftime.
Others like Jaden Neal and Nees also continued to get in on the scoring in this quarter.
In the third quarter, the team scored 17 points to make it 50-27 and wrapped things up by scoring 22 points in the fourth quarter to reach the final score.
The Steers started raining down threes in that quarter from players like Nees, Allen and Caleb Chandler.
Nees and Wankowicz led the way in scoring on the night with Nees having 29 points and Wankowicz coming away with 18 points.
Chandler had nine points on 50% shooting from beyond the arc while Allen had seven points.
Trejo and Wilde both had four points each and Neal rounded out the scoring with a point of his own at the free throw line.
After their game Saturday, Nov. 22 against the Albany Lions, the Steers will pick things up at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24 at home against Breckenridge.
