The Graham Steers took another step into their season in the ACS tournament and played a variety of teams such as Cache, Littlefield, Fort Worth and Bowie.
The Steers showed fight throughout the tournament and were able to pick up a win against Littlefield 7-3.
The tournament was held from Thursday, Feb. 26 through Saturday Feb. 28 and the Steers’ big win over Littlefield took place on the first day of the tournament after their matchup against Cache.
Graham started the game trailing 2-1 but took the lead in the third inning. Mike Garcia tied the game for the Steers with a double on a line drive to left field to score Tanner Hurford.
Tripp Mahaney followed that up with a double to left again to score Garcia and give Graham the lead. Littlefield tied things up in the fourth but Graham punched right back in the fifth inning after Colt Taylor hit a leadoff single and used his baserunning skills to advance to third.
Taylor then scored on a wild pitch while Rowdy Bond was up at the plate. The Steers tacked on some insurance in the top of the sixth with three more insurance runs.
All State catcher Tripp Mahaney hit a triple early in the inning to center field to score Hurford. Mahaney scored on a wild pitch and Colt Taylor got aboard with a walk.
Tyson Louder scored the final run of the game by punching in Taylor with a single to make it 7-3 Steers.
The pitching staff held things down the rest of the way to seal the victory for Graham. The team will look to pick up more quality wins like this as they advance further into the year.
Graham will come home for a tournament from Thursday, March 5 to Saturday, March 7.
