Steers prepare for final non-district opponent

Replacing gifted quarterback Tucker Horn is no easy feat, but it’s clear that Graham sophomore Hunter Lanham is growing on the job.

Lanham threw for 334 yards and four touchdowns as the Steers romped to a 59-35 win at Decatur on Thursday night.

After coming up short in the second half in each of their first three games, everything clicked for the Steers last week, leading to their first victory of the season.

Lanham hit 18 of 27 passes with the touchdowns of 61, 16, 25 and 48-yards out. 

Running back Chase Gilmore continues to run through opposing defenses. The senior has already rushed for 576 yards through four games, including a team-high 11 touchdowns. 

Daniel Gilbertson and Marcus Clark continue to be Lanham’s favorite targets. The duo has combined for 44 catches already. 

The story of the win Thursday may have been the job done by the Graham defense and coordinator Clay McChristian. The Steers’ struggled mightily in each of the first three games by giving up an average of 230 yards alone in the second half, but Thursday proved to be a different story.

Decatur’s best player A.J. Martinez entered the game with 248 rushing yards and 211 yards and a team-high 20 catches. The junior piled up 303 yards of total offense and three scores in the first half, but the Graham defense limited Martinez to just 10 yards on...
