When the Graham Steers have played at home this season, excitement has followed. But on Friday night, the circumstances were intensified when the final horn sounded. Graham played one of its most competitive games of the season against a tough district rival in No. 14 Wichita Falls Hirschi, leading to a 57-56 upset. The victory moved Graham to 15-4 on the season and 1-0 in district play. Tuesday night was scheduled to be a district contest for the Steers against the No. 9 Burkburnett Bulldogs on the road. Friday night, Jan. 20, Graham will be back at home taking on the Iowa Park Hawks. “We’ve played Hirschi every year since I’ve been here, and this is my first time beating them,” Graham coach Marcus Morris said. “This is a very fun group to coach because of how hard they play and how unselfish they are. I’m very proud of these kids.” Perhaps the most impressive thing of the first half wasn’t that Graham took an early lead, but Hirschi led just one time at 7-6 with 2:22 left in the opening frame. When Graham retook the lead at 8-7 with 1:56 left in the first, the Steers took the momentum and ran with it. Going into the second it was advantage Graham at 13-9.
