Steers soccer on roll following signature win

Although the Graham High School soccer program is in its second year of existence, last Tuesday night meant more than a win.

The Steers put together one of their more impressive wins in memory by delivering a thrilling 1-0 win over Decatur at Newton Field. With the victory, it gave the program their first-ever winning streak over varsity opponents.

It not only was the second straight win for Graham, but also its second consecutive shutout. According to head coach Tim Wankowicz, his young group matured in a big way by taking down a rich soccer program, which advanced to the regional quarterfinals in 2018.

“I told my team at halftime, if you can get a goal it will change everything,” Wankowicz said. “It really put us in a situation where we were able to revive ourselves once we scored, because were getting a little stagnant there.”
