Javier Leija set the tone from the post in a career game. His breakout performance aided the Steers in an 85-78 win.

Burkburnett is a team that shoots in a large volume. A majority of those shots come from behind the arc. The Bulldogs opened the game with two 3-pointers before the Steers went on their first run of the game.

In two minutes, from 7:38 through 5:38, the Steers stampeded for a 9-0 run and an 11-6 lead. In the first quarter, Leija earned four points from offensive rebounds with a field goal and 2-4 shooting from the free-throw line. It was Daniel Gilbertson who led the way at the start with nine points in the first quarter. The Bulldogs scored 15 of their 20 first-quarter points on 3-pointers.
