The Steers’ struggles against the Brock Eagles continued with a 10-0 five-inning loss at Brock. The series completed a two-game season sweep of the Steers by the host Eagles, who shut out the Steers in both games.
With a combined nine hits against four Steers pitchers, the Eagles jumped ahead Friday, March 27, with one run in the second inning and never looked back.
The Eagles added a second run in the third inning, five in the fourth inning and completed the run-rule victory with three runs in the fifth inning.
“We started out playing well. We had runners on and just couldn’t get them in,” Steers coach Allen McGee said. “Against a team like Brock we have to play consistently well all seven innings.”
The Steers were held to three hits in the game. Tanner Hurford opened the game with a single to left field, but the Steers were unable to take advantage. Cooper Corley earned the Steers’ second hit of the game with a two-out single to second base in the top of the third inning.
Ayden McDougal earned the Steers’ final hit of the game with a two-out single in the top of the fourth inning. Tyson Louder, Cason Roberts and Hurford each drew walks.
McDougal, Colt Taylor, Louder and Corley pitched for the Steers and gave up a combined seven walks and nine earned runs. The Steers’ defense committed a pair of errors, including one that allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Steers, winless in district and on a five-game losing streak, will look to turn this district season around with a two-game series this week against Brownwood.
The first game of the series took place after press time on Tuesday at home. The second game will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 2 at Brownwood.
