The Graham Steers had a tough night in this past week’s matchup against the Brock Eagles in district play, suffering their first loss in district against the Eagles by a final score of 28-7.

Despite playing a high caliber team like Brock with this close of a score, head coach Clay McChristian said the team should never be satisfied with this sort of outcome.

“There shouldn’t be one guy in this huddle who's okay with playing these guys close,” McChristian said. “I’m proud of the way we battled in the second half. We’re going to have to take our practices up another level.”

The team got off to a slow start with Brock scoring a passing touchdown on their opening drive, and then the Steers’ offense turning the ball over on their opening drive.

Quickly, a seven point deficit turned into a 21 point deficit as Graham trailed 21-0 at halftime.

Eventually, quarterback Jace Gill was able to find receiver Brodie Martin in the back corner of the endzone for a passing touchdown, but that would be the lone score for the game.

Brock scored one more time in the second half as well in order to seal the final score.

The defense showed out for Graham throughout the contest, pulling in multiple interceptions from players like Macrae Menard and Colt Taylor. Cooper Corley also made big plays throughout the contest, tipping a ball on one of Menard’s interceptions. Corley also blocked a field goal from Brock to keep the game 28-7.

The Steers’ next matchup will be their final game of the regular season at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at home against Eagle Mountain. That game will also be the community’s “Heart of Graham” game.

The Steers currently sit in second place in the district and will look to maintain their standing as they get through this final game and into the postseason.
