Steers take four games in Brock Tournament

The Steers started with a loss then bounced back to win the final four games last weekend in a tournament hosted at Brock and Henrietta. The Steers have tournaments at home and Celina before beginning district play on March 23.

Prestonwood Christian 7, Steers 2

The Steers fell behind early and could not keep pace with Prestonwood Christian in their tournament opener. Prestonwood scored three runs in both the second and fourth innings. The Steers got two runs back by scoring in the fifth and sixth innings. Corey Ballew singled to center field, which ended the shutout with a run from Alex Strawbridge. The following inning, Lawson Wenninger took advantage of a Prestonwood error after a single by Brodie Bates. Nick Helm took the loss for the Steers. He threw four innings, giving up seven hits and six runs while striking out two.

Steers 6, Brock 1

The Steers bounced back on day two with a win over the host school. They took advantage of a first-inning error for two runs and never looked back. The win was capped off by a four-run fourth inning. Strawbridge, Ballew and Ben Williams each had RBIs in the inning. Raider Horn took the win. In five innings pitched he gave up three hits, an unearned run and struck out six. Ryan Grimsley pitched the sixth inning giving up one hit and striking out one.
