CLYDE - Graham didn’t have the best first half Tuesday night, but fortunately, the Steers made up for it in the second.
A three-point deficit at halftime was erased very quickly by Graham. The end result was a 62-49 victory over the Brownwood Lions in the bi-district championship at Clyde High School.
“This feels good, but at the same time, it’s more of a relief,” Graham coach Marcus Morris said. “We feel this team is good enough to win some gold balls in the playoffs. Even before the season we talked about making a push in the playoffs. These kids have worked very hard and are very deserving of this.”
In the first quarter, the Steers raced out to a quick 12-3 lead with 3:54 left. However, turnovers and missed shots allowed the Lions back into the game. Brownwood managed to cut the Graham lead to four points at 18-14 going into the second.
Just when it appeared normal order was restored, the Steers’ lead disappeared. Brownwood took its first lead of the game at the 2:32 mark, putting them ahead 25-23. Despite Graham retaking the lead at 26-25 just 20 seconds later, the Lions responded again. At the halftime intermission, the Lions were leading 29-26.
