District 5-4A saw a major shakeup on April 2 after Burkburnett upset Iowa Park. The upset gave the Steers a chance to take sole possession of first place in the district when the team hosted Vernon Tuesday night. The Steers overcame a pair of defensive lapses to win 4-2 and take a one-game lead over Iowa Park, midway through the district schedule.

The Steers had five errors in the game, with two proving to be costly. In the third inning, with two outs, pitcher Corey Ballew was credited with a pair of errors. First on a pickoff attempt and second on a throw to first. The second gave up the first run of the game.

“I don’t think it was anything we excuted poorly,” Steers coach Jim Bob Williams said. “I think the runner got in the way at first and Parker couldn’t see the throw. We gave up some errors but it wasn’t anything I’m worried about, it was situational.”
