The Graham Steers are well into their training program as they ramp up for the regular season.

The team got a taste of competition in scrimmage matches this past weekend prior to their first regular season game.

These matches took place Saturday, Nov. 8, against Springtown and Poolville.

In these matches, the Steers went 1-1 beating the Porcupines in their first matchup while losing to the Monarchs in their second contest.

Graham pulled away for a hard fought victory 30-25 against Springtown and showed flashes against Poolville but ultimately lost 28-14.

The top scorers on the day were Nick Wankowicz, Tyler Allen, Jagger Nees, Cooper Wilde, Jaden Neal and Obed Trejo.

Wankowicz and Allen both led the team in scoring with 12 points each on the day. Nees was also effective scoring on the day with 11 points.

Trejo had five points overall while Wilde and Neal each had two points. These matchups should overall serve as learning experiences for the Steers.

The Steers already played a Graham-hosted fall league in September and October and these scrimmages were the next step in getting them prepared for regular season play.

New head coach Quinton Fossett is looking to build a consistent culture of team play and success in his first year and the team has shown consistent hard working efforts throughout the offseason.

The team has also kicked off their official practices and will be working hard leading up to their first matchup of the season.

That matchup will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, against the Millsap Bulldogs. This game will be the first opportunity for the team to showcase their new system and culture and build a bright future for the program.
