Team effort lifts Lady Blues to road sweep Tuesday

After impressing at their own Lu Allen Tournament over the weekend, Graham entered Tuesday night’s game against Class 3A Breckenridge with a lot of momentum.

The Lady Blues carried that fuel to spark another dominant (25-12, 25-13, 25-18) road sweep to earn their 12th win already, just four weeks into the season. To make the feat even more remarkable, 11 of the 15 teams Graham has played, qualified for the playoffs in 2017.

While head coach Marci Faulk knows her team has started the season well, there is room for improvement.

“I think in some areas we are ahead of where I thought we would be at this time,” Faulk said. “But, in some areas I am disappointed. We just haven’t improved in the areas where I thought we would. We are ahead, as a team, definitely, but I just wish there was more improvement in certain areas.”

Graham had a total of eight aces Tuesday, with six different players registering at least three kills each. Senior Celeste Aguirre led with eight kills followed by outside hitter Chloe Menard’s five-kill, 10 assist performance. Emma Ranger had four kills. Hannah Isom, Alex Husen and Britain Thayer contributed with three kills apiece. Husen had four digs and two aces, as well.

Senior setter Avery Iles orchestrated the charge with a team-leading 12 assists and two aces.
