GHS tennis shines at district
It was an all-Graham girls’ double final Wednesday, April 1 in the District 6-4A Championship, with the duo of senior Jade Dospapas and junior Kline Krupp defeating teammates senior Hope Jones and junior Stacey Gonzalez.
The two-day event, taking place March 31-April 1 in Stephenville, saw the Graham High School tennis team competing against Burkburnett, Bowie, Holliday, Iowa Park and Vernon.
“Today was a special day for Graham Tennis,” the team wrote in a Facebook post Wednesday evening. “We couldn’t be more proud of these girls…”
Both doubles teams advance to play in the 2026 UIL 4A Regional Championships, taking place April 21-22.
The championships will take place at McLeod Tennis Center on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock.
Lady Blues fall in Mineral Wells
The Lady Blues dropped their third-straight game with a 17-2 loss in three innings Tuesday, March 31, against the Lady Rams in Mineral Wells.
Larissa Warren and Jansyn Louder scored the lone runs for the Lady Blues to give the team a brief lead in the first inning. With Louder on first base via a one-out walk, Warren hit an inside-the-park home run to right field for the team’s only two runs of the game.
The Lady Rams responded with four runs in the bottom half of the first inning and added 13 runs over the following two innings. Warren’s home run marked the only hit of the game for the Lady Blues against Lady Rams starting pitcher Rylan Tarver.
Ruby Shaffer struggled in the pitching circle for the Lady Blues, giving up four hits and six walks in two innings, including eight earned runs. Kylie Pruitt pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up nine hits and eight earned runs.
The Lady Rams scored an unearned run in the bottom of the second inning.
The loss closed the first half of the district schedule with a 1-4 district record and sixth place in the 6-4A standings.
The Lady Blues will have a difficult road to make the playoffs, needing to pass Mineral Wells and Stephenville in the district standings in the second half of the schedule to secure at least a fourth-place finish.
Stephenville visited the Lady Blues yesterday, after press time, to open the second half of the district schedule.
Graham will visit Glen Rose for the second of two district games Tuesday with a start time of 5 p.m.
Steers fall to Lions
The Steers’ slow start to the district schedule continued Tuesday, March 31, as the team lost 11-1 at home to Brownwood. The loss marks the Steers’ sixth-straight loss and moves the team to 0-3 in the district schedule.
While the starting pitcher, Tripp Mahaney, held the Lions hitless for 3.1 innings, he gave up six walks, and errors led to three unearned runs, including a fourth run, which was earned.
The Steers combined for four hits. Mahaney collected a pair of hits, and Tyson Louder and Rowdy Bond added to the hit total with one hit each.
After getting held scoreless through two games, the Steers found the scoreboard with an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning.
Tanner Hurford, who reached base from an error at shortstop to open the bottom of the fifth inning, scored from a sacrifice fly to right field by Toby Boenisch.
The Steers looked to earn their first win in the district schedule when they hosted the Lions for the second game of the two-game series on Thursday, April 2, after press time.
Mineral Wells is next up for the Steers with a two-game series next week. The Steers visit the Rams Tuesday, April 7, while the Rams will come to town Friday, April 10.
