Members of the Lake Chapter of the Ex Texas Tech Students got a little information regarding the upcoming Texas Tech University athletic season. Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt spoke to Graham residents Tuesday at the Sparrow Creek Ranch as part of the Lake Chapter Scholarship Event. Along with Hocutt, President and CEO of the Texas Tech Alumni Association, Dr. Bill Dean, also spoke to the audience. "This is my wife and I escape to during the summers," Hocutt said. "We come to Possum Kingdom Lake a lot to get away. This is a great place to take our kids to have a bonfire at night and be able to spend time together." Three scholarships to local seniors were also given to selected students from the area. Graham's Elizabeth Routon along with Jacksboro's Tyler Hermonson and Olney's Laney Kulhanek each were awarded $1,000 scholarships. Hocutt stated that his main goal with each incoming athlete is to make sure they end their college careers with a degree. The Tech athletic department has seen a number of sports excel over the last few seasons. The Red Raider baseball team has won back-to-back Big 12 titles after putting together a 45-17 record on the diamond last season. Under Hocutt and head coach Tim Tadlock, the Raiders advanced to the College World Series in Omaha in 2014 and 2016. For the rest of this story, subscribe to our print or online edition.
