Texas Tech coach coming to Graham

Fri, 05/05/2017 - 3:24 pm
Texas Tech University men’s basketball coach Chris Beard will drop by the Graham Country Club May 10. Beard will be the speaker for the Annual “Lakes Chapter” Ex-Students Meeting. The event will be held next Wednesday, May 10 at 6 p.m. at the Graham Country Club. Tech Exes from Stephens, Jack and Young counties, prospective students, and friends of Texas Tech are invited to attend. Although new to Texas Tech, Beard has an extensive history in the Lone Star State. He began his playing career at McCullough High School, just outside of Houston, then played for the University of Texas before turning to coaching. Beard was an assistant coach for 10 years under Bobby Knight and Pat Knight. In 2015 he was voted Sun Belt Coach of the Year while coaching University of Arkansas-Little Rock to a 30-5 record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. After Tubby Smith’s departure to Memphis, Beard took the Texas Tech job on April 15, 2016. Members of the Lakes Chapter invite the public and prospective students to come out and enjoy an evening with loyal Red Raiders and welcoming Beard to Graham. The event will also feature numerous Texas Tech executives from Stephens, Jack and Young counties. Doors open at 6 p.m.
