Every two years the University Interscholastic League (UIL) looks at enrollment numbers and makes adjustments to district realignments for all of its sanctioned sports. UIL, on Thursday, announced the official district alignments for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years. Both Graham High School and Newcastle High School will see several changes to district schedules for the next two years.

In football, the Steers will join 3-4AII. Joining the Steers will be Midland Greenwood, Snyder, Sweetwater and Hirschi. The Huskies will be a familiar district foe for the Steers as the teams typically meet in non-district play. The Steers met both Greenwood and Snyder last season. The Steers shutout Greenwood 17-0 on Oct. 1. The Steers and Snyder met in the area playoff on Nov. 18 with the Snyder winning 14-3. Iowa Park and Vernon both dropped to 3AI. Mineral Wells returned to 4AI while Bridgeport joins Aubrey, Farmersville, Gainesville, Sanger and Van Alstyne in 5-4AII.

The Bobcats drops to 1AII beginning this fall. They will join Bowie Gold-Burg, Forestburg and Strawn in 8-1AII. Strawn will pose the biggest challenge to the Bobcats over the coming years as Greyhounds are coming off of a 15-0 season. They’ve averaged 2.5 losses over the past four seasons. Bryson and Perrin-Whitt will move to 9-1AI. Saint Jo will join 10-1AI.
