Graham’s girls varsity track and field team cleaned up over the weekend, taking 1st place in the 2017 PoJo Relays, held Saturday, March 25, at Porcupine Stadium in Springtown. The girls took the top spot with 213.5 points overall, far ahead of second place Midland Christian School, who had 122 points. Highlights for the Graham girls include Summer Croxton’s 1st place finish in the 200-meter dash and Cassie Russell’s top spot in the 400-meter dash. But more Lady Blues bolted to first place in the event. Khloe Morris was top runner in both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs, finishing with a personal best in the latter, while Jasmine Sims was in the top spot in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. Lady Blues runners won the 4x400 relay after coming in second in both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. The Lady Blues also took the top three spots in the pole vault, with Morgan Shook, Makenzie Graham and Jourdan Daily taking first through third, respectively. Kendra Williams had a great day for the JV Lady Blues in the 800-meter run, taking the top spot in that event. The varsity and junior varsity Steers also did well at the meet, each taking 2nd place overall. For the varsity Steers, Finis Smith sped to 1st place in the 100-meter dash, and took 2nd in the 200-meter. Hunter Dooley held the top spot in shot put, while Blake Mead led in the pole vault. Standouts for the JV include Sam Perkins, who took 1st place in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs, followed by Carlos Fuentes, who took 2nd in both. The Steers took top spot in the 4x200-meter relay, 2nd in the 4x400 relay and third in the 4x100. Zeph Kappalaj led the pack in the discus while Preston Ortegon tied for 1st in the high jump.
