Volleyball teams all across the state will begin their 2018 seasons Wednesday. While having to wait a few more days to start official practices, the gym at Graham High School was alive and well with volleyballs spinning every wish way during the volleyball camp that started Monday and ended last Wednesday.

Head coach Marci Faulk had the campers find a line and work on getting better every day during the three-day camp. Campers, such as Jayden Brown, Madisyn Blackmon and incoming eighth grader Sarah Tillotson were introduced to skills drills similar to the ones that Faulk will be conducting once two-a-day practices arrive.

“We always make sure that first and foremost, fundamentals are taught,” Faulk said. “For our freshmen it’s a big camp because it’s the first time that we are legally allowed to coach them for the upcoming season. It’s a good chance for us to see our athletes and get to know them so they can see how we do things.”

Faulk said that the 78 campers who attended the camp benefit from learning the same terminology from the coaches they will play for in the coming seasons.

“Our camp is important for the younger kids to come to because it’s the same way we teach during game days,” she said. From seventh through 12th, we use the same concepts and the earlier in their volleyball career they pick that up, they will instantly be that much more prepared once they get into high school ball.”
