Lady Blues soccer will cap off this year with one last milestone with two athletes representing the team in the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches All-Star Game.
Defender Ellie Weatherman and goalkeeper Taylor Lauster will be the first players in program history to represent Graham High School in the senior showcase event taking place Saturday, May 9 at Blossom Athletic Complex in San Antonio. The pair will play in the Region I vs. Region II match, which will begin at noon on the east field.
Weatherman and Lauster were players on this year’s Lady Blues team, which enjoyed its deepest postseason run in program history with a trip to the regional semifinal. Both athletes were also named to the 1st Team Academic All-State Teams by the Texas High School Coaches Association and earned All-District honors.
Steers stay perfect in spring league play
The Graham Steers remain undefeated in this year’s spring league. The team enjoyed a pair of double-digit victories over Haskell and Wichita Falls Memorial.
The Indians were the Steers’ first foe of the night, which saw the Steers taking a 42-24 victory. The night followed with the Steers’ defeating Memorial 45-32. The latter showed promise in the team with a 13-point win over a larger, 5A school. The Mavericks were held scoreless for much of the first half.
“(The) guys did a great job defending the rim all night,” Steers head coach Quenton Fossett said. “WF Memorial didn’t score their first basket until there was under a minute left in the first half. When we defend the paint like that, we are tough to beat.”
The lineup of the league and the schedule experienced some alterations, with some teams dropping out and other teams joining. The Steers will play their final two games of the league at Graham Junior High School. They will meet Graford at 6 p.m. and finish against Bowie at 7:40 p.m.
