Westmoreland eager to lead Ladycats heading into new season
The Newcastle Ladycats are excited about the start of another basketball season. The program has posted 11 straight playoff appearances, five consecutive district titles and is expected to do big things once again this year.
Layton Westmoreland knows all about the winning tradition the Ladycats have built and is ready for his first year donning the green and white on the sidelines.
The first-year head coach spent last season in San Antonio as the head coach of The Christian School at Castle Hills where he led his squad to a 21-9 overall record.
Westmoreland inherits a team that is built for success. But, his first order of business will be finding a way to replace leading scorer from last season in K.C. Shields. Shields was named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-Region team and helped guide the Ladycats to another regional quarterfinal appearance.
