Bryson Cowboys baseball drops pair at Saint Jo Panthers tourney

What started as a good tournament ended sour for the Bryson baseball team this weekend. The Cowboys went 1-2 at the Saint Jo tournament, bringing their overall record to 2-2 for the season. Bryson 10, Saint Jo 3 Bryson raced out to a 4-0 lead after two innings over the host Panthers. Saint Jo got a run back in the bottom of the third to make the game 4-1. However, the Cowboys got two more runs back in the top of the fourth, making the score 6-1. In the fifth, the Cowboys tacked on four more runs, to lead 10-1.

Cowgirls softball gets wins in Wichita Falls

WICHITA FALLS - Bryson’s Cowgirl softball squad managed to grab a pair of wins this weekend. In a stacked field, the Cowgirls competed at the Sunrise Optimist Tournament from Wichita Falls. In the opening contest, the Cowgirls defeated the Quanah Lady Indians by a score of 7-1. Bryson got five runs in the second inning. Mikayla Tyson (2) and Kyla Jones each collected RBI hits in the inning.

Mustangs end Steers’ playoff run in area round thriller

ALEDO - In little more than a minute, Graham’s season came crashing down Friday night. A 12-2 run by Midlothian Heritage to end the first half broke open a 22-22 game. The end result was a 60-55 defeat, ending the Steers’ season in the area round at the Aledo Indoor Stadium. The turning point of the contest came moments after Graham had built momentum. Down 21-12 with 4:38 left in the second quarter, the Steers tied the game at 22-22. However, three turnovers hurt the Steers, allowing the Mustangs to cash in, in a big way. Heritage led 34-24 going into the halftime break.

Lady Blues softball struggles at Abilene

ABILENE - It’s been a rough start to the 2017 season for the Graham Lady Blues softball team. This past weekend at the Ice Breaker tournament in Abilene, the beginning got worse. Graham went 1-4 at the tournament, bringing their overall record to 1-6 for the season. In the opening game of the tourney, Graham won a narrow 3-2 game over Coahoma. Two runs in the top of the first gave the Lady Blues an advantage. The Lady Bulldogs tied the game in the bottom of the fourth at 2-2. Nicole King scored the game-winning run off an RBI single from Audrey Tyson in the top of the sixth inning.

GHS boys golf takes second at home

It’s been a busy few days for the Graham Steers golf team. This past weekend the Steers competed at the 4A Regional Preview at Shadow Hills golf course in Lubbock. Monday, Graham was back in action hosting the Steer Invitational event. Graham finished with a team total score of 703 at the regional preview. Cade Barnett shot a career-low 87 in the first round, finishing with a 178 overall. Parker Oliver also shot a career-low in the second round with an 87, giving him a total of 187. Garrett Box finished with a total of 227, shooting a career-low 109 in the second round.

Graham track opens 2017 season

Graham’s track season got off to a solid start Saturday in Mineral Wells at the Ram Relays. The Lady Blues finished in fifth as a team with 69.50 points against a field including Chisholm Trail, Abilene Wylie and Everman. The Steers, meanwhile, claimed sixth overall as a team with 46 points. In the girls varsity events, several Lady Blues turned in solid performances. Claire Jones claimed fourth overall in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.93, which was an improved finish from her 13.12 preliminary run. Summer Croxton also claimed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a finish of 27.20.

They’ve got game

Members of the Graham Fire Department participated in a special exhibition basketball game with a select group of Special Olympics athletes from Wichita Falls, and they all gathered for a group photo after the event. The game, held Saturday morning at Graham High School, was part of the annual Special Olympics area basketball competition which fielded teams from across the Texoma region.

Steers tame Brownwood Lions for bi-district championship

CLYDE - Graham didn’t have the best first half Tuesday night, but fortunately, the Steers made up for it in the second. A three-point deficit at halftime was erased very quickly by Graham. The end result was a 62-49 victory over the Brownwood Lions in the bi-district championship at Clyde High School. “This feels good, but at the same time, it’s more of a relief,” Graham coach Marcus Morris said. “We feel this team is good enough to win some gold balls in the playoffs. Even before the season we talked about making a push in the playoffs.

Graham tennis wins at home tournament

Last weekend, the Graham tennis teams felt right at home. Multiple Steers and Lady Blues players won medals at the Derek Liles Memorial tournament. Sabryna Adrianson and Marcus Montfort claimed the overall title in the mixed doubles division, defeating fellow teammates Aaron Rice and Rachel Bartholomew in the final by scores of 6-1, 6-4. Adrianson and Montfort advanced to the final by defeating the team of Young/Jeffery from Decatur (8-1), and Foster/Hall from Iowa Park (8-3).
