Bryson volleyball falls in area round

BOYD - During the course of a playoff game, momentum can swing from one team to another in an instant. This was a harsh lesson the Bryson Cowgirls volleyball team learned Saturday afternoon in the area round of the playoffs against the Avalon Lady Eagles. Ahead 24-20 in the second set, Bryson failed to finish off Avalon and even the match, as the Lady Eagles stormed back with six straight points and eventually finished off a sweep of the Cowgirls, ending their season at the Boyd High School Gymnasium.

Lady Blues JH basketball opens season

While football season might still be a hot topic on everyone’s mind right now, the sounds of dribbling on a hardwood court could be heard Monday night signaling the opening of the junior high basketball season. The Graham 7th-8th grade Lady Blues basketball teams opened their 2016-17 campaign against the Burkburnett Lady Bulldogs. In the 7th grade B team game, the Lady Blues lost a close game by a score of 19-17. Leading the scoring for the Lady Blues was Christabel Cervantas with six points. Graham Lady Blues volleyball clinches area title

More often than not, things don’t always go according to plan in the playoffs. While the Graham Lady Blues might not have gotten off to the start they planned on Friday afternoon against Springtown, they certainly won’t be complaining with the finish. Despite dropping the first set of their area round playoff game against the Lady Porcupines, the Lady Blues had more than enough fight left in them to rebound and advance to the regional quarterfinals in four sets from Jacksboro High School.

Lady Blues volleyball claims No. 1 playoff seed

WINDTHORST – It’s been often said that sharing is caring. While the Graham Lady Blues might have had to share the regular season district title with the Burkburnett Lady Bulldogs, the only thing they cared about Friday afternoon in Windthorst was claiming the top overall seed for the upcoming playoffs. Mission accomplished. Graham used a blistering first set attack to overwhelm the Lady Bulldogs and set the tone for the rest of the match as the Lady Blues swept Burkburnett to claim the No.

GHS runner Morris going to state

There was only one thing on the minds of area cross country runners this weekend: Punching their ticket to the state competition at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. The Graham boys and girls cross country runners tackled the course at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock at the Class 4A Region I meet. After the dust cleared, it was Graham Lady Blues runner Khloe Morris who earned her way to the state meet with a 12th place finish, clocking in with a time of 13:01.63. Morris will run on Nov. 12 in the Class 4A girls meet at approximately 8:30 a.m.

Steers look to clip Hawks’ wings in home finale

While a playoff spot has already secured for this season, one would think the Graham Steers (5-4, 2-1) could afford to relax this Friday night on Senior Night when the Iowa Park Hawks (8-1, 2-1) come to Newton Field at 7:30 p.m. Unfortunately, relaxation is going to be the last thing on the minds of either of these teams. The winner of this contest will earn the No.

Bryson Cowboys shorten Longhorns; on their way to playoffs

With the playoffs on the horizon, the Bryson Cowboys football team made sure they headed into their bye week on a high note to close out the regular season last Friday night. A road trip to face the Forestburg Longhorns provided little difficulty as the Cowboys only needed three quarters to punch their ticket to the postseason, claiming a 47-0 victory at Longhorn Stadium. “Our kids were dialed in against Forestburg,” Bryson coach Jason Briles said. “We knew coming into the game that whoever won was going to the playoffs, and we just came out aggressive and never let off the gas.

Lady Blues JV cross-country wins district

After months of competing and grinding through long practices and races, the Graham junior varsity boys and girls cross country teams finished off their seasons in style Oct. 20 at the district meet in the Memorial Sports Complex in Wichita Falls. The Graham junior varsity Lady Blues claimed the district title with all five runners finishing in the top-10 for the race, leaving little doubt in the team standings as to who would claim the title.

Lady Blues volleyball earns Senior Night sweep vs. Vernon

While there might have been some technical difficulties with the microphone before the start of the Graham volleyball game Tuesday night, there wasn’t much else hindering the Lady Blues on Senior Night. Thanks to a balanced offensive attack in the opening set, the Lady Blues were able to carry their momentum and turn it into a sweep of the Vernon Lady Lions, assuring them of no worse than a share of the district title with Burkburnett.

Bryson Cowgirls sweep Alvord; face Saint Jo in playoffs next

If there was ever such a thing as momentum, the Bryson Cowgirls volleyball team has it going into the playoff season. This past Tuesday night the Cowgirls finished off their district season in style with a commanding 3-0 sweep of the Alvord Lady Bulldogs from Bryson High School, as they finished the district portion of their season with a 10-3 overall record. The victory was also the fourth straight following a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Poolville on Oct. 11 at home.
