Tackle football returns to Graham youth football

Signups for the Graham Little League Football Association 2021 season are underway on the Graham Sports Authority website. This season will mark the return of tackle football after a two-year absence.

The cost of registration is $50 for 6U & 8U Flag and $75 for 10U & 12U Flag. 12U tackle is $50. Registration for tackle ends July 31 and Aug. 20 for all flag football divisions. Tryouts and draft for flag divisions are Aug. 23. Games begin on Sept. 11 and will be played each Saturday through Oct. 23.

GHS baseball and softball teams to host skeet shoot fundraiser

The annual Lady Blues softball and Steers baseball benefit skeet shoot will be taking place on Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Young County Warrior Ranch. The annual event hosts a skeet shooting competition, gun raffle, lunch and silent auction to benefit the baseball and softball teams of Graham High School.

Registration for the event begins at 8:30 a.m. with shooting beginning at 9 a.m. Registration for the skeet shoot is $20 per shooter and comes with a free barbecue lunch. Spectators are invited to attend. The lunch is $10 for all others attending.

Previewing 2021: A look at District 3-4A DII

District 3-4A DII in football will have a lot of new faces when the district schedule begins on Oct. 8. Bridgeport, Iowa Park, Vernon and Mineral Wells all have coaches beginning their first year at their respective schools, with Steers coach Kenny Davidson being the only coach returning from last year.

Graham and Iowa Park will likely battle for the first and second playoff seeds, with Bridgeport, Vernon and Mineral Wells battling for the third and fourth playoff spots in the district.

Previewing 2021: A look at the Steers’ non-district schedule

The Steers open football’s regular season with a pair of home games on Aug. 27 and Sept. 3. Before that, the Steers will meet Burkburnett and Bowie in a pair of scrimmages. The Graham Leader has already looked into how last season fared for the Steers’ opponents. As we enter the final month of the year without Texas high school football, we will give a brief preview of each team on the 2021 Steers schedule. This edition will include the non-district schedule. The district schedule will be included in a future edition.

How the Steers’ district opponents fared in 2020

There will be several new faces in charge when the 3-4A DII football schedule opens on Oct. 8. All four district opponents have new head coaches entering the 2021 season. Before previewing the 2021 season, The Graham Leader is looking back on the 2020 seasons of the opponents the Steers will see in 2021.
