Graham softball tournament schedule and inclement weather plans

The Graham Lady Blues softball team will co-host the Graham/Springtown Invitational this weekend with games beginning to get underway right now. Over the next three days, the Lady Blues will have games against Van Alstyne, Seminole, Hawley, Decatur and Texas Angels. The Lady Blues will play all of their games at the Graham HS field located outside the Young County Arena.

District 6-4A boys basketball all-district teams

With Hirschi's 45-41 loss to Pampa in the regional semi-finals, all of the 6-4A teams have been eliminated from the playoffs and the all-district teams have been announced. Evan Ranger, Bryce Bozeman, Daniel Gilbertson and Hunter Lanahm have all earned all-district honors. Graham finished the district with a 4-4 record. Their season ended on Feb. 25 with a 61-51 loss to Midland Greenwood in bi-district.

Graham sets GJHS record at Pojo Relays

The Graham Junior High School Steers and Lady Blues track teams participated at the Springtown Middle School Pojo Relays yesterday. During the meet, eighth grader Mary Lyndel Graham set a new school record in the 1600 meter run with a tim of 5:51.14.

UIL announces 2020-2022 Reclassification and Realignment

The UIL announced its 2020-2022 Reclassification and Realignment this morning at 9 a.m. Every two years the UIL reassess its classes and districts based on enrollement numbers and will realign the districts as necessary. When the projected cutlines were announced for classes A-6A, Mineral Wells was expected to drop to Division II of Class 4A. Several outlets, including The Graham Leader, predicted that Mineral Wells would be placed in a district with Graham. Although more changes were possible that was the only change predicted.

Hirschi Huskies too much for Steers

When the Graham Steers tipped off their Jan. 24 matchup they were looking to continue on with their winning ways. The team has struggled since late December and had finally earned its first win of 2020 three days prior. They faced a tough task when they traveled to Wichita Falls to face district foe, Hirschi. The Huskies jumped ahead early, and the Steers proved to be little challenge. Graham was handily defeated 68-46.

Lady Blues lose heartbreaker to Hirschi Lady Huskies

The Lady Blues entered their Friday night contest with a lot on the line despite being just halfway into the district schedule. Graham and Wichita Falls Hirschi opened the season with expectations to compete with each other as favorites to win the district championship. With Hirschi having one loss, Graham had a prime opportunity to significantly increase its championship odds with a victory. Despite a last-second effort, the Lady Blues fell just short and lost 39-37 to the Lady Huskies on Jan. 24.

Lady Blues participate in Stephenville Tournament

The Lady Blues junior varsity and varsity soccer teams spent last weekend in Stephenville for the annual Stephenville tournament. The two teams combined to play five matches over the two day tournament.

The Lady Blue JV team picked up their first win of the season during the tournament with a 5-0 victory over Waco La Vega JV. Olivia Huerta, Harley Grafton, Gabby Wooters, Melany Simental and Marisa Ortegon all scored goals in the win. Huerta’s goal was scored with an assist by Simental. Prior to the win, the team lost 7-0 to Lorena’s varsity team.
