Seventh annual Bailey Tournament sees success, gives back

The Brandon Bailey 3-on-3 Tournament kicked off Saturday morning with preliminary games, and concluded Saturday night with championship games inside Newcastle gymnasium. A total of 29 teams took part in the event.

The group from Albany and Cisco won the college men’s title. Isaac Acosta, Derek Isbell and Duane Walkingstick went into a sudden death free throw tiebreaker to down Electra’s Brady Doss, Trey Jones, Andrew Marsh and Markeis Lee.

The final trophies were awarded to Chase Cook, Ryan Chaney, Kolton Kohl and Hayden Farquhar in the elite men’s group.

Graham track team runs at state

The Graham High School quartet of Summer Croxton, Chloe Menard, Claire Jones and Rosie Schaffer had a strong showing at the UIL Track & Field State Championships Saturday in Austin.

Steers end baseball season with loss in playoffs

The Graham baseball team saw its 2019 season come to an end over the weekend with a pair of losses to top-ranked Argyle on Friday.

The Steers fell 2-1 and 15-0 in the Region I area round of the playoffs. Although Graham failed to advance, they put a major scare into the defensing champions in the first game.

Bryson’s Orr captures silver in high jump

Dillon Orr ended his high school career with a second place showing in the Class 1A boys high jump Friday afternoon at the UIL state track and field meet.

The Bryson senior set a new personal record with a jump of 6-2. Happy’s Jackson Davis cleared 6-4 for first place.

Lady Blues’ tracksters prepare to take state meet

Graham’s 4x200-meter relay team said preparing for the UIL Class 4A Track & Field State Meet feels normal at this point.

After six first place finishes in meets this season and a trip to state last year, the Lady Blues are prepared to top last year’s sixth-place finish.

Yet as Summer Croxton, Claire Jones, Rosie Schaffer, Chloe Menard and alternate Cambrie Cowser prepare to head to Austin, they all agreed the feat is special to them.

Stone’s walk-off carries Steers to bi-district title

There was plenty of drama in Graham’s bi-district series against Snyder over the weekend.

The Steers finally ended a four-hour game two in the 11th inning Saturday to pull off a sweep of Snyder with a 9-8 victory at Graford.

Snyder, needing a win to force a winner-take-all decisive final game, went in front 8-7 with a sacrifice fly in the top of the 11th inning.

Graham as able to take advantage of the 110-pitch limit in the bottom half of the frame when Snyder’s Leroy Tavarez was unable to start the next inning due to the Texas UIL rules.
