Steers drop first district game in extra-inning affair

Hits were at a premium Friday in a matchup of the top two teams in District 6-4A. In the end, Vernon was able to score a pair of runs in the ninth inning to hand the Graham varsity baseball team their first district loss of the season 3-1.

The Steers continued their trend of great starts to the game on the mound, as starting pitcher Owen Loesch did all he could for his team by going six innings scattering seven hits with seven strikeouts.

Graham pole vaulters headline first day of meet

Several Graham track and field athletes had quality showings in the first day of the District 6-4A meet held at Newton Field on Wednesday.

Six separate field events took place on the opening day with the Steers and Lady Blues varsity holding first place.

Graham, as of Wednesday evening, has claimed 56 points followed by Vernon in second, 25 points behind the Lady Blues.

A big reason for the success early on was the job done by Jourdan Daily and Alesia Redner in the pole vault. Daily finished first and Redner second respectively.

Steers soccer wins first playoff game in school history

It was a bittersweet Friday night for Graham soccer teams playing in their very first playoff games in program history.

Graham and Brownwood exhausted every ounce of their resources-physically and emotionally-during their Class 4A bi-district clash that tested wills and blood pressures too.

And in the end of the 80 minutes of regulation, the Steers survived an ever-exhilarating 4-3 win, getting their first-ever playoff victory in GHS history.

Steers soccer advances in playoffs

The Graham Steers soccer team is moving on in the Class 4A Region I playoffs after beating Brownwood 4-3 on Friday at Newton Field. With the victory, it is the first postseason win in GHS soccer history.

Goals were scored by Greg Simental, Tadeo Padron, Xavier Reyes and Marcos Herrera. Fort Worth Castleberry awaits head coach Tim Wankowicz's club Monday at 6 p.m in Springtown for the area championship. 

Other standouts included Alonso Arvizu, Jesus Gonzalez, Will Busey, Pablo Simental and goalkeeper Zac Felipe.

Steers stay perfect in district with sweep of Burk

Thanks to a powerful offensive showcase and the pitching of Owen Loesch, the Graham varsity baseball team stayed undefeated win District 6-4A play after a dominating 10-2 victory in Burkburnett on Tuesday.

Stone’s no-hitter helps Steers to large district win

Luke Stone continued his tremendous start to the baseball season Friday by throwing a no-hitter for the Graham baseball team en route to a commanding 10-0 win over Burkburnett in the District 6-4A opener.

The Eastfield College signee has been very efficient throughout his senior season. Stone allowed just three walks while striking out six batters on an efficient 83 pitches, 55 were for strikes.

Lady Blues softball picks up big win in 6-4A opener

It would be hard to ask for a much better game than what Graham’s softball team got on the opening night of district play Tuesday night as the Lady Blues defeated Iowa Park 10-1.

The Lady Hawks entered the meeting with only two losses on its schedule and had an offense which averaged over seven runs a game in the month of March.

Graham teams have success at PK Relays

Graham’s track and field teams competed very well on Saturday at the Possum Kingdom Relays held at Newton Field. The Lady Blues varsity finished second out of 16 schools competing in Division II.

The PK Relays have been hosted and organized for 72 years by the Graham Lions Club, and the Relays are the longest continuous track meet in Texas.

Several individual performers for Graham stood out including Claire Jones, Summer Croxton, Rosemary Schaffer, Cambrie Cowser and Jourdan Daily who each won a gold medal in their respective event or relay team.

Offensive outburst lifts Lady Blues to victory

Heading into the season, Graham softball coach Adam Arrington knew his team had the capability of putting up monster offensive numbers. The Lady Blues showed exactly why Tuesday afternoon in a 15-5 rout of Springtown in non-district play.

Every starter in the Graham lineup managed to reach base in some sort of fashion in the five-inning run-rule victory.

The Lady Blues actually trailed 5-0 early on heading into the bottom of the second as the Lady Porcupines scored early against starter Alex Husen before the offense took control by scoring 15 unanswered runs.
