Lady Blues volleyball win third straight district title

Head coach Marci Faulk knew her team would have an uphill battle heading into this season after losing seven seniors on last year’s 30-7 squad that advanced three rounds deep in the playoffs.

When two-a-days began, the Lady Blues were without two of the better players on last season’s team including district MVP Jasmine Sims and libero Alyssa Hutcheson, who are now playing at the collegiate level.

Sub-varsity football dominates Bridgeport at home

It was a special night for the Graham freshman and junior varsity football teams last week. Both teams defeated Bridgeport by a combined score of 96-0 last Thursday, Oct. 18 at Newton Field.

The 9th-graders began the evening with a 36-0 thumping of the visiting Bulls. Three second quarter fumble recoveries by the Graham defense allowed the team to open up a big lead.

Gilmore carries Steers past Bulls

Chase Gilmore could not be stopped on Friday night. The senior running back torched the Bridgeport Bulls for a new season high 251 yards and four touchdowns en route to a 35-17 win on the road.

The victory marked the fourth in a row for the Steers after opening the season with three straight losses. Trailing 7-0 with 1:01 left in the opening quarter, Gilmore accounted for touchdown runs of 3, 42, 2 and 3 yards over four quarters to lift Graham to an impressive victory over a Bridgeport team that entered the matchup having won five games in a row.

Brice, Bobcats dominate Savoy

J.D. Brice continues to make his case for one of the best players in six-man after helping lead the Newcastle Bobcats to a 58-13 three-quarter victory at Savoy on Friday.

Brice ran for 389 yards on 15 carries while throwing for 77 yards to go along with seven rushing touchdowns. The senior also threw a 30-yard touchdown to Jacob McMillan early in the first quarter and a 28-yard pass to Ethan Lyons late in the third quarter. Brice accounted for four tackles on defense.

Lady Blues sweep on Senior Night

The Graham Lady Blues sent their seniors out in style with another sweep of an opponent on Friday at Graham High School gym. The Lady Blues were able to take charge halfway through of all three sets to finish off a pesky Burkburnett team 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-20).

While Graham continues its push towards the playoffs, the evening was all about the celebration of the student-athletes who dedicated four years to a program. 

Cowgirls pick up thrilling five-set victory over Perrin

The Bryson volleyball team continued its heat streak earlier this week, defeating Perrin in a fiveset thriller 3-2 (21-25, 25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 25-11) on the road Tuesday night.

“We were thrilled to pull off the win considering it wasn’t our best game,” said head coach Chelsea Kincaid. “But a win is a win and I will take that any day.”

Lady Blues clinch district yet again

The Lady Blues made easy work of Hirschi on Tuesday in Wichita Falls winning 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-20).

The victory came with even sweeter news a few hours after the match, the team was informed that Burkburnett defeated Vernon in a five-set grueling battle. With the Lady Bulldogs win, the Lady Blues clinched the outright District 6-4A title with two league games remaining.

Graham also continued an early-spending trend. Chloe Menard tagged three aces along with four kills while sophomore libero Reese Echols put in two aces.

Graham Junior High Steers tangle with Iowa Park last Thursday

The Graham Junior High School football teams suffered mix results Thursday Oct. 11 at Newton Field to Iowa Park.

The 8th-grade B team had no trouble with the visiting Hawks, running away with a 24-0 win.

The 7th-grade A team fell in a heartbreaker, 20-16, after Iowa Park scored the eventual game-winning touchdown with 12 seconds left in the game.

Graham had a 16-6 lead until with 21 seconds left in the third quarter, the Hawks scored on an 89-yard interception returned for a score.

Steers sit in driver's seat in district play with win Friday

BRIDGEPORT-The Graham Steers moved to 2-0 in District 3-4A Division II play after an impressive 35-17 win over Bridgeport Friday night at Bull Memorial Stadium, The Steers earned their fourth straight victory after a slugglish 0-3 start to the season. It marked the first time this year in which the team saw its record over .500.

With Iowa Park's win over Vernon, the Steers sit alone in first-place in the district, being the only undefeated team with an unblemished record in league play just two weeks in.
