GISD establishing AI guidelines for students, staff

The Graham ISD Technology Department is working on AI guidelines for the district to outline the ethical and effective use of AI to enhance teaching, learning and administrative functions.

The AI guidelines will be for students, teachers, administrators and GISD staff utilizing AI tools and technologies in classrooms, assessments, administrative operations and decision-making processes.

The guidelines are also being created to ensure data privacy, equity and responsible AI usage and are set to go in effect in August 2026.

Eliasville man arrested after cross-county vehicle pursuit

An Eliasville man was arrested after fleeing on foot following a multi-agency vehicle pursuit that began in Graham and ended in Mineral Wells.

Cameron Young, 18, turned himself in on Wednesday, May 13 and was booked into the Young County Jail where he remained as of Thursday, May 15 on a $100,000 bond for evading arrest or detention with a vehicle.

Graham Police Department was seeking information fleeing arrest on foot Monday, May 11 in Mineral Wells, which led to reports being made and Young turning himself in on a warrant.

Primary runoff election early voting next week

Early voting in the Republican and Democratic primary runoff elections will be held next week, with elections for Young County Judge and Precinct 4 Commissioner on the ballot.

The runoff election will be held Tuesday, May 26, with early voting being held from May 18-22. The winners of that runoff election will be that party’s nominee in the upcoming general election Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The last day to register to vote in the runoff election was Monday, April 27 and the last day to apply for a ballot by mail is Friday, May 15.

Young County sets FY 2027 budget planning calendar

As the summer season approaches so does the budget planning process for the Young County Commissioners Court, with the first budget workshops to be held next month.

The commissioners will begin hosting budget workshops each Monday in June starting Monday, June 1. Each budget workshop will be held at the Young County Commissioners Court at the Young County Courthouse, Room 106, at 516 Fourth St.

First reading of city water, sewer rate increases Thursday

Following approved increases implemented in October 2025, the Graham City Council will consider a first reading this week for additional raises to both the water and sewer rates.

The city council will meet Thursday, May 14 to consider an ordinance amendment to add a 7% increase to base and volumetric water service charges and a 3% increase in sewer volumetric charges beginning with the Thursday, Oct. 15 billing cycle.

Second town hall set for city comprehensive plan

Graham residents will have an opportunity to learn more about a comprehensive plan that will shape the future of the city during a town hall meeting this month.

The town hall meeting will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28 at North Central Texas College at 928 Cherry St. in Graham. The meeting will be open to the public and feature a presentation outlining the draft direction of the comprehensive plan. 

A comprehensive plan is a growth and development plan for the city.

Graham Area United Way accepting new local agencies

Each year, Graham Area United Way hosts a fundraising campaign for local partner agencies and the organization is seeking new agencies to benefit from the fundraising effort.

GAUW is accepting applications for new nonprofit agencies through 5 p.m. Thursday, June 4 to receive funding from the local organization. To find out more information, or to obtain an application, email executivedirector@grahamareaunitedway.com.

Wichita Falls Area Food Bank launches fundraising campaign for new facility

The Wichita Falls Area Food Bank launched a fundraising campaign last week to support the construction of the James N. McCoy Foundation Distribution and Education Center in Wichita Falls.

WFAFB CEO David O’Neil said the need has outgrown the current space. The current facility for the organization serves an estimated 28,000 individuals and the new center will serve the current 42,000 that need assistance along with additional support for others.
