Coloring our world: Library Summer Reading Program starting soon

Establishing a love and continued interest in reading is the goal of the Library of Graham’s Summer Reading Program, which has signups starting next week.

Registration for the program runs from Friday, May 23 through Monday, June 9 at the library located at 910 Cherry St.

The six-week program draws in the youth of the area to read books and earn prizes and rewards. The reading challenge encourages participants to read 30 minutes per day and bring their logs to the library each week.

Danley named among Best-in-State Wealth Advisors

With 26 years of service to the Graham area, Edward Jones Financial Advisor Todd Danley was recently named by Forbes as one of the Best-in-State Wealth Advisors for 2025. 

The Best-In-State Wealth Advisors in Texas are posted each year based on data from June of the prior year. 

Forbes and SHOOK Research in April recognized the achievements of financial advisors with criteria including industry experience, best practices, compliance records and assets under care.

City stops pursuit of TxDOT grants for trails, sidewalks

After submitting a preliminary application to the Texas Department of Transportation for a hike and bike trail and sidewalks on Hwy. 16, the Graham City Council withdrew from the grant process.

The Transportation Alternative Set-Aside (TA) Program from TxDOT is administered for bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure projects in communities. Graham was one of 247 entities that submitted a total of more than $1.1 billion in grant funding requests from TxDOT.

Graham works to establish future of airport

A public information workshop was held last week to start the process of planning for the future of Graham Municipal Airport through the establishment of an airport layout and action plan along with other studies.

The plans and studies will be a joint effort between Parkhill, Inc., Centurion Planning & Design and NV5 Geospatial. 

Perry Havenar with Centurion Planning & Design spoke at the meeting Thursday, May 1 and said the plan will be driven to support future development at the airport.

NCTC celebrates bright future of its welding graduates

The academic year is coming to a close all across Graham and that means we're getting to one of the most memorable times of the year, graduation. 

At North Central Texas College, several students are being recognized for their impact in the welding program and the promising futures that look to be ahead of them. 

NCTC takes pride in this program because welding is a high-demand field.

OPD chief presents K-9 award in honor of Cpl. Wright

Less than one year ago, the community came together to mourn the loss of Olney Police Department Cpl. Miranda Wright. Her legacy continues through an award recognizing K-9 handlers like Wright.

The first K-9 Corporal Miranda Wright Memorial Award was presented Saturday, May 3 by OPD Chief Dan Birbeck during the 2025 United States Police Canine Association, Inc. Annual K-9 Trials Awards Ceremony.

Public Narcan opioid training at NCTC this Monday

A public training course for the use of Narcan in the event of an opioid overdose is being offered in Graham next week.

The free course will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, May 12 at North Central Texas College and be led by Central Plains Center Hub Coordinator Rhonda Uptergrove. 

The North Texas Central Plains Center Hub organization serves people with mental illness, intellectual disabilities, substance use disorders and those with developmental delays.

Unofficial election results released

Voting concluded Saturday with unofficial election results released for local contested elections for the city of Graham, Graham ISD and Newcastle ISD.

Early voting in the election ran from Tuesday, April 22 through Friday, April 25 and from April 28-29. Election day voting was held Saturday, May 3 at the Young County Annex in Graham and First Baptist Church in Newcastle.

The Graham City Council had two seats up for election in May which were held by Jack Little and Brant Lundgren.

Wrangling up success: Chisholm part of national champion horse team

Only one year after graduating from Graham High School, Lela Chisholm can already call herself a national champion.

Chisholm and the West Texas A&M University’s Ranch Horse team won their first national Division I championship at the National Intercollegiate Ranch and Stock Horse Association’s Collegiate National Championship Show in Amarillo.

The NIRSHA championship was held April 14-16 at the Amarillo Tri-State Fairgrounds.

GHS students accept around $150,000 in scholarships

Around $150,000 in scholarships were awarded to Graham High School seniors as part of the 39th annual GHS Scholarship Awards Ceremony.

The scholarship presentation was held Monday, April 28 at Graham Memorial Auditorium with parents, staff and visitors present to support the local students. 

Around 200 local scholarships were provided by 71 different local benefactors, clubs and agencies.
