Christmas spirits return downtown: GRT ‘A Christmas Carol’ in December

Actors will take the stage for a seventh year bringing to life the characters in the timeless Charles Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol.” 

Around 30 actors will be at The Perry theater on the downtown square for seven performances which will take place over two weeks this year.

The show will be held Friday, Dec. 6 though Sunday, Dec. 8 and Thursday, Dec. 12 through Sunday, Dec. 15. Performances will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, 7 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Young County Museum of History and Culture set to open in 2025

With renovations to their new facility approaching completion, the nonprofit Young County Museum of History and Culture is one step closer to being a downtown source for county history.

YCMOHC is an organization dedicated to the collection, preservation, research, retelling and exhibition of the history of Young County. The museum includes artifacts, antiques and collectibles representing the earliest recorded history of Young County.

State Capital Highlights: More than 1,500 bills filed as session approaches

Texas lawmakers last week filed more than 1,500 bills ahead of the next legislative session, which begins Jan. 14. The Houston Chronicle reported the proposed measures cover a range of topics ranging from border security to abortion access, education and other issues.

Republicans have expanded their control of both chambers after flipping several seats during this year’s elections. State Comptroller Glenn Hegar has projected the state will have a $20 billion surplus at the start of the 2025 session.

GISD hires new superintendent

It was a night of change Wednesday for Graham ISD, as the board announced the retirement of Superintendent Sonny Cruse and accepted the contract for new Superintendent Dr. Mary Johnston.

The board accepted Cruse’s resignation during a special-called meeting Tuesday, May 28. His retirement will be effective Tuesday, Dec. 31, but in the meantime he will transition into the role of superintendent emeritus and provide mentorship and guidance to GISD leadership.

Salvation Army kettle campaign starting Saturday

The holiday season is right around the corner, and with it comes a spirit of giving.

The Salvation Army of Graham is getting set to begin its annual red kettle campaign in an effort to raise funds to help others.

Starting Saturday, Nov. 16 and continuing Monday through Saturday until Tuesday, Dec. 24, volunteers will be stationed at two locations in Graham, ready to receive charitable donations to support the Salvation Army’s efforts.
