JV, Freshman Steers lose to Boyd

It was a tough night for Graham Steers sub-varsity basketball Tuesday, Dec. 6 at Graham High School. After opening with a blow-out loss in the junior varsity game, the freshman team lost on a last-second 3-point basket.

A late first-quarter run brought the junior varsity Steers back into the game after falling behind early. It was perimeter defense that proved to be problematic as the Steers struggled while giving up eight 3-pointers over the second, third and fourth quarters as the team fell to Boyd, 61-28.

Lady Blues split with Sissies

It was a night of blowouts Tuesday, Dec. 6 in Bridgeport. The Lady Blues Junior Varsity Red held the JV Sissies without points in two of four quarters in their 41-8 win to open the night. In the varsity game, a short-handed Lady Blues struggled to a 62-21 loss.

The varsity Lady Blues were reduced to six players at tipoff and competed against a Sissies team with 12 players suited for the game. The Sissies outscored the Lady Blues 17-4 in the opening quarter and never looked back.

Campbell to compete in World Series of Team Roping finale

With the Ariat World Series of Team Roping 2022 finale underway in Las Vegas, for a second straight year, the competition will see representation from Graham. Tyrel Campbell, of Graham, and Mac Fairey, of Moody, will look to defend their #8.5 Ariat World Series of Team Roping championship title when they compete Saturday, Dec. 10.

Campbell, who participates part-time and works in the oil industry by profession, grew up in Ingleside. His love for roping grew on a ranch his father worked on in the town just north of Corpus Christi.

Steers win three straight at Haskell Tournament

The Steers are in the midst of a turnaround season. After struggling most of last season to find wins, the Steers have won three straight games following the completion of the Haskell Tournament Dec 1-3 at Haskell High School.

After a slow start against Seymour in their first game of the tournament, the Steers were unable to overcome a nine-point deficit against the Panthers. The Steers struggled to hit shots in all four quarters of the 75-33 loss.

Lady Blues compete in Haskel Tournament

The Lady Blues, defensively, has shown potential despite several big losses over the start of the 2022-2023 season. Although the team struggled in the Haskell Tournament Dec. 1-3 with a 1-2 record, the Lady Blues picked up a 31-24 win over Brook Hill in a defensive game to open the tournament.

Abby Osborn, who has shown improvement in her offensive game over the past month, led the Lady Blues with seven points. Both teams struggled to find the basket in the first quarter, with Emi Gordy and Hannah Williams scoring for the Lady Blues.

Lady Blues lose in Stamford

The Lady Blues continued to show growth in some areas of their game while suffering growing pains in other areas Nov. 29 at Stamford. While the team was able to limit points from their turnovers while struggling with full-court pressure, the team struggled to make baskets and get out of double teams in the corner. After holding an early lead, the Lady Blues lost 44-22.

Football All-District teams announced

Steers sophomore Rylan Monsey and junior Steven Brown lead a list of 21 Steers earning all-district football honors this week. Following Hirschi’s loss on Friday, November 25 to Glen Rose in the first regional playoff game, all four District 3-4A Division II playoff teams were eliminated.

In the announcement of the all-district honors, Monsey was named Offensive Newcomer of the Year and Brown was named Co-Defensive Line MVP. Eight Steers were named First Team, seven were named Second Team and four earned Honorable Mentions.

Steers win big in Comanche

Graham basketball had a successful night in Comanche. With the varsity, junior varsity and freshman teams visiting the Indians, all three teams earned double-digit victories Tuesday, Nov. 29.

The Graham Steers earned their second win of the season Nov. 29 with a 60-45 win at Comanche over the Indians. While using a 24-shot advantage from the free-throw line, the Steers continue to show improvement after matching the team’s win total from the previous season.

GJHS Girls Basketball Results

The Graham Junior High School Lady Blues basketball teams hosted Holliday Monday, Nov. 28. The eighth grade B team picked up the Lady Blues' lone win of the night with a 23-10 lead. Score and stat information was provided by GJHS Girl's Athletic Coordinator Kim Brewster.
