A look ahead: Steers Homecoming versus Springtown

Anyone expecting an easy game for homecoming will be disappointed when Springtown visits the Steers on Sept. 27. The defensive line will face a tough test as the Porcupines will be led by running back Cameron Rickett. The senior running back is only listed at 5-8, but weighs 205 pounds and will not be easy to take down. He can break free for big runs and has runs for 45 and 85 yards this season.

Steers shutout Rams in home opener

In the first game of the season, the Steers relied heavily on junior Daniel Gilbertson for offensive output. During their week two matchup against Mineral Wells, the Steers spread the ball around while the defense held the Rams scoreless to win 56-0 in the home opener. There were questions when the season opened as to how the offense would run without Chase Gilmore. Head coach Kenny Davidson provided answers as five players found the end zone on offense.

Lady Blues Volleyball jumps to second in 4A

Last week’s loss to Boyd seemed to have little impact on this week’s Texas Girls’ Coaches Association State Volleyball Pool as the Lady Blues have jumped to second in Class 4A. The poll, released on Aug. 26 shows Graham behind top-ranked Farmersville in the updated poll.

Neither of the Lady Blues’ losses early in the season has made much of an impact in their rankings. Brock, who the Lady Blues lost to at the Lu Allen Memorial Volleyball Tournament ranked fourth in 3A, while Boyd, who defeated the Lady Blues on Aug. 20 are currently ranked third in 3A.
