Young County Precinct 3 Commissioner Stacey Rogers announced Monday that he would not be running for reelection for a fifth term in 2024.

Rogers will remain as the Precinct 3 commissioner until Dec. 31, 2024, when the next candidate is sworn in to the position.

“As the only true conservative republican on commissioners court I have decided not to continue as your commissioner for precinct 3,” Rogers said in a statement. “My road and bridge budgets have always reflected restraints on spending for needs versus wants. Most departments in this county government have failed to do so.”

Rogers said the precinct position is more than just a job and the next commissioner will need to be available to work alongside the road and bridge employees on a daily basis.

“The next commissioner should be currently involved within this precinct, (have) formal business training and (provide) a work ethic to continue his road maintenance program,” Rogers said.
The precinct 3 position will be up for election in the March 5, 2024 primary election. The first day to file for a place on the primary ballot is Saturday, Nov. 11.

Early voting in the primary election will be held from Feb. 20, 2024 through March 1, 2024. For more election information, visit sos.state.tx.us.
