The close of the school year is just a few weeks away but sports don’t stop for many of Graham’s youth.

Graham High School’s athletic teams are hosting a number of youth sports camps in the coming month. Two of the camps were announced previously on social media: the Baby Blues volleyball camp and a soccer camp for future Steers and Lady Blues.

In addition to those two camps, three other sports will have opportunities for young student-athletes to receive instruction and coaching in the month of May. GHS will have tennis, baseball and softball camps for Graham youth of various ages.

All the camps cost $50 for registration per athlete, with registration available on the GHS website under the Athletics tab, under Summer Athletic Camps. The camps for these three sports will all occur over the same three-day period of May 28-30.

There will be two tennis camps — one for incoming first through fifth graders and one for incoming sixth through ninth graders. The one for the younger children will be from 8-10 a.m. each of the three days while the older campers will go from 10 a.m. to noon.

Both camps for the tennis participants will take place at the GHS tennis courts. Campers will learn the fundamentals of tennis and are asked to bring tennis shoes, a water bottle and a racket if they choose; the school will have extras available.

The two baseball camps will be for similar age groups — incoming second through fifth graders and incoming sixth through ninth graders. The younger group will practice from 8-10 a.m. and the older camp will go from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Baseball’s camps will happen at the GHS baseball field at 120 Barclay Ave. Campers should bring a glove, cleats, bat helmet, water and should wear sunscreen. Instruction will include the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, throwing, and base running using the high school terminology.

The final camp offered in May will be for softball and will involve the same age groups as baseball: second through fifth graders and sixth through ninth graders. The younger camp will run from 8:30-10:30 a.m. and the older camp will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The softball camps will take place at the GHS softball field at 120 Barclay Ave. Campers should bring a glove, cleats and a bat, if they have one available. The camp will cover different skills throughout the three days, but participants will hit every day.
